Educational Background
EL, the Principal of Heguru Education Centre, was offered both the PLE-EDB overseas scholarship (to USA) and the Public Service Commission - Singapore Government Scholarship (to France). He accepted the former and pursued his bachelor's degree in an Ivy League and one of the top universities, Cornell University (USA). After returning from USA, he continued to pursue a master's degree at the National University of Singapore.
Passion for Teaching
EL's passion for teaching was sparked by his stint of teaching in one of the secondary schools in Singapore, while waiting for the master's programme to start after returning from USA.
It was one of the most enriching experiences he had in teaching, guiding, interacting, sharing his knowledge and fostering bond with the students that ignited his passion in teaching. Although it was a short stint, he was very well-liked by his students.
After serving his six-year scholarship bond, he decided to take the plunge and do a career switch to pursue his passion, this is, educating the young.
Why Heguru ?
Having gone through the educational system of Singapore, EL fully understands how rigid, stifling and "left-brained" the formal educational system is. There is little or no focus on developing the right brain of children.
When his wife was pregnant with their first child, EL began to do some research on right brain development and training of young children and chanced upon Heguru which was not available in Singapore then.
With great interest, he contacted HEGL Japan in 2011 and was invited to meet the founders Mr Hirotada Henmi and Mrs Ruiko Henmi in Japan. He was amazed by the effectiveness of the Heguru programmes after seeing how smart and focused the Heguru elementary school students were. Having been touched by Mr and Mrs Henmi's passion and witnessed for himself the effectiveness of the Heguru programmes, EL decided to bring it to Singapore, not only to benefit their own son, but also all the little learners here.
Subsequently, he attended further training in HEGL Japan in April and September 2012. It is coming to more than a year of preparation now and he is looking forward to opening of classes in January 2013 !
